* To create a modern open flow we’ve removed walls, doorways, and raised beams to open the interior family room, kitchen, and dining area, and installed two magnificent carved Corinthian Marble Columns to support the new arch between family room and kitchen.

* Other highly customized amenities are stunning white Carrera Marble Stairs with Gold Leaf Scrolled Iron Railings, and a Domed dining room ceiling with  Fragonard style “Cupids” floating above on an eight foot refined oil painting, brilliantly lit by a custom Venetian Glass Chandelier we had made on a trip to Venice.

* Appropriate walls and ceilings glisten with the elegant subtle sheen of authentic Venetian Carrera Plaster,  slaked by fire in an Italian lime kiln for a year.

* Floor to ceiling imported Antique French Doors with exquisite Belle Epoch etched art glass panels open to a lovely Office overlooking the Entertainment Patio and its picturesque statues, fountains, and stepped garden.

*Upstairs, a convenient large laundry room was added with marble floors, basin and skylights. It also provides the all important Easy Access to the adjacent large attic with shelves and lighting for storage.

* We’ve added a great deal of county “permitted” plumbing and wiring for new efficient lighting downstairs, and for the long runs to the lawn, gate, gazebo and pond.  

* New gas & electric connections where installed to power the Trane Forced Air Heater & Air Conditioner, the “On Demand” hot water heater, kitchen appliances, as well as dual 220v electric & gas runs for both the new La Cornue Stove, and the far … far away waterfall pump. 

*To the Mansard’s style flat roof top section, we added insulation board for sound and heat transmission reduction, a fireproofing layer, all topped with 30 year vinyl.

Upgrades Still To Be Completed:

Two full baths, limestone flooring throughout (currently in progress with all needed limestone crated in the driveway), some garden delights, a front Portico with glass doors, patio stone.
These are major projects yet undone. 

Project Insights:

Our goal was to live in a special home with particular refinements to please only us, but over the years we’ve seen so many peoples’ jaws drop on discovering our secret pond and walking park, or faces lighting up as they taste a huckleberry for the first time by the stream . . . or couples holding hands sitting on the stone wall pond’s edge, bare feet dangling in the water making ripples travel across the mirror surface . . . kids Euphoric over “camping out” in a pup tent by the pond’s fire pit. Or seeing generations of baby squirrels and birds discovering their very own splashing fountains and waterfalls for the first time.

From foresters to city slickers – so many have gushed over the nature and peaceful feelings here, it’s clear to us that everyone loves the beauty of nature and moving water. And that’s a very special part about falling in love with 1545, and having the good fortune to live here. Because of the fun . . . and the memories it leaves.

So we believe there may be far greater potential for “1545” than we’ve aspired to – such that one can simply live here comfortably and watch the value grow . . . or further develop for even greater potential.

Notes to the NEW Owner:
The following is only for you …(the One Person who will fall in love and make 1545 your home the way we did.) We’re providing this deeper detail for you alone, with the idea that you will enjoy it more than the mere “facts.”
     Luckily, we started with the outdoors, adding the beautiful Italian Quatrefoil Fountain with Cherubs and the Blue Pacific Ocean background for drama, first. “Lucky,” because little did we know there’s really nothing like the gentle sound of splashing water to melt away the problems of the day. Even so, there is much to learn about nature in a forest and the whole effect was soon upstaged by the True role of a Fountain in a forest … a watering hole for the local squirrels and birds endlessly debate over “whose fountain” it is anyway. But they don’t stay for long, and you’ll soon find yourself enjoying the deep blue ocean horizon again … or walking over to the long fence to actually “smell the roses.”

Next came the Pond – the Waterfalls – the Race – the Stream and the Reservoir (to pump all the water back up to the top again), and private walking paths to enjoy the broadscape along the way. On the far side of the pond we added the peaceful Meditation Enclave with the 1500’s Italian Bench surrounded by fragrant purple salvia to sit and watch the waterfall or meditate. Or climb the stairs to the high open top Roman Viewing Gazebo, as if living in a “Parish” Painting while viewing the magical water world below.   Or enjoying the Night Stars as they begin to appear at twilight – while sitting warm & cozy around the Fire Pit having wine and appetizers with your friends. And if you like the idea of that …

As day turns to night the Entertaining Back Patio beckons to come dine around King Arthur’s Round Table with its Shell Fire Pit warming and flickering golden dancing light over happy faces.  In fact, there are 4 Natural Gas Fire Pits to light the night and entice city-slickers to learn to enjoy the lovely cool night air in Pebble around the Pond, the Gazebo, and two on the back patio Entertainment Center – great for family dinners and fun parties. 

To put it plainly … living here is fun.  We’ve made it so you CAN enjoy being outside with nature in a Forest, Day or Night, and it grows on you. Sitting around the fire down by the Pond at night … you can’t help imagining you might just be sitting in the exact same spot where some ancient Indian sat long ago … doing the exact same thing you are. 
That is … until it’s time to go to bed. Fortunately, the INSIDE life at 1545 isn’t hard to take either.

A few years back we began a major remodel of the house. Our vision was to give a romantic but simple Parisian flair and create a slightly more elegant modern feel – a private and comfortable home filled with interesting old growth garden delights each day, like the ever-blooming mature Cecil Brunner roses we’d planted very early on, while along the way, we added many trees, flowering vines, big and small statues, smaller water features … all to enliven this gorgeous palette of colors in our peaceful forest setting, and bring interest with a formal touch … but not too formal for a forest setting so it’s always inviting and a pleasure to live in.

Our Mansard is perfect for a small family or couple. But if you want to expand … there’s a large flat area adjacent to the house on the Pond side where we believe the county will allow a Master Suite, Studio, a Skylit Great Room, or some combination under the majestic pines. On the Southern side, there’s ample room for a large 3 car garage with bedroom or Granny Suite above.
Naturally, we can’t predict the county’s fluid permitting process, so if you want to add on we recommend consultation with a local architect for a professional opinion before buying.   

As you can imagine from the pictures here, it’s all slower and harder to achieve than we thought, but we wanted to take advantage of this time we’re finishing up to begin looking for the right person who will treasure this special home. Perhaps someone with a green thumb, a vision, or an English Gardener who’d be in heaven here. Someone, who can appreciate the nature, artistry, and the love we’ve poured into this perfect little pocket by the Sea.
